  • What Area Service Committee meeting is and isn’t.
    • ASC serves the area groups
      • ASC joins together in service to develop, coordinate and maintain the services of the Western North Carolina Area
      • Coordinate services to help the sick and suffering addict and  bring unity into our area services
        • Hospitals and Institutions, 
        • Public Relations
        • Area Anniversary party, 
        • Unity Day, 
        • Volleyball, Bowling, 
        • Public Relations, 
        • IT, 
        • Policy to keep our services within traditions
        • Convention, 
        • The Campout,
  • If you have never been to an Area Service Meeting (ASC) we are here to help.  If there is something you don’t understand or if you want more information 
    • This month’s Mentor please introduce yourself, and put your contact information in the chat?  
    • Private message your Mentor during the meeting
    •  Contact your Mentor after the meeting
    • or ask any of the Officers  contact information 
  • Your responsibility as a GSR
    • Attending the AREA service committee (ASC) regularly
    • -Serving as a liaison between the homegroup and the Area
    • -Reporting to your home group any Area, Region, and NAWS announcements
    • Brings any homegroup’s concerns to Area
    • Bring any motions or proposals from your home group to ASC
    • -Brings any Motions or Proposals back to the Homegroup for voting,
      • They will be in the minutes.  
      • But your notes will help clarify any questions they may have.
      • Bring back any additional comments, or concerns regarding Motions/Proposals
    • -Carry the Homegroup’s votes back to AREA
    • -Serve on Subcommittees, when possible
    • -Share and train responsibilities with the GSR-Alternate

  • For a better understanding of Motions/Proposals and how voting works
    • Motions are made on all items of financial matters
      • Follow Roberts Rules of Order
      • Always go back to homegroup for their vote
      • With a simple majority most Motions pass. There are a few expectations.  
    • Proposals are made on all other issues
      • Follow Consensus-Based-Decision-Making
        • When the Proposal is being voted on the Motion will be read, and they will ask are any descents, or is anyone opposed to this Motion.  If the answer is no.  the Proposal passes.
        • If there are descents a compromise is tried to be reached.  For more information on Consensus-Based-Decision-Making
      • Some housekeeping issues will be voted on by the members at the meeting.
        • These are usually things that don’t affect policy and have no financial impact
  • In the chat, put your name, your home group name, and your contact information. And fill out the GSR form
  • This way you will be on the ASC email list

      • From the Sec. and any other trusted ASC servant.
